Welcome to The Great Toronto Yarn Hop! We are a community event that takes place annually in the summer, in which groups of yarn enthusiasts visit different yarn stores across the city while yarn-crafting on public transit, supporting local yarn shops, and raising funds for Sistering, a drop-in/support centre for women. In 2020, we had our first Virtual Hop in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please feel free to stay awhile and peruse our website to find out more about our event and how you can participate!

Thank you so much to everyone who’s participated in The Great Toronto Yarn Hop this year! With all your support, we raised $3,135 for Sistering! Whether you’ve bought passports and raffle tickets, liked or followed our posts, we so appreciate your support for Sistering, the local yarn stores, and our effort to bring yarn-loving folks together across Toronto and the GTA.
To our beloved local yarn stores and raffle sponsors — we could not have done it without you, and we’re so grateful for your partnership and contribution to the hop. We know that participation in the hop is always over and above the workload of running a yarn business, and we are very thankful for your generosity and patience with our event.
The TGTYH team is stepping back
The current team that has been organizing the annual hop started volunteering together in 2018. While our shared love for yarn hasn’t changed since we met, our life circumstances have. After 16 exhausting months of the pandemic, we realize that we no longer have the capacity to carry the hop forward, and we have collectively made the difficult decision to take a step back from this volunteer work.
Unfortunately, this means that currently there is no yarn hop being planned for next year. We are hopeful that there will be another group of yarn enthusiasts who will be able to bring new energy to the event. If you and your friends are interested in leading the next hop, we would be happy to connect and pass on information and material, please let us know by emailing us at thegreattorontoyarnhop@gmail.com.
As folks may know, our social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) have been managed by the multi-talented and hardworking Emily Gillies. Like the rest of the team, Emily is no longer able to be part of TGTYH, and our social media accounts will no longer be updated or monitored. To connect about leading the next hop, please email us.
